Six Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Hunan, China: Investigation Underway
Zhuzhou, Hunan Province, China – A horrific multi-vehicle crash onthe Lusong Bridge in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province, has resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries to seven others. The incident occurred on Sunday morning,September 23rd, and is currently under investigation.
According to preliminary reports and eyewitness accounts, the incident began when a white sedan, identified as aJihu (ARCFOX) electric vehicle, was rear-ended by a taxi while traveling eastbound on the bridge. The impact caused the Jihu to lose control, veering into oncoming traffic.
Dashcam footage from the taxireveals that the Jihu driver had activated their brake lights, suggesting a possible attempt to slow down before the collision. However, the brake lights were extinguished after the impact, and the vehicle accelerated rapidly into the opposite lane.
The Jihuthen collided with multiple electric bicycles and motorcycles on the shoulder of the road before swerving into the right lane and colliding with a small car traveling in the opposite direction. The taxi driver, identified as Wang (54), was not injured in the initial collision.
The Jihu, a brand of electric vehicles manufactured by BAIC BluePark, has issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident and statingtheir full cooperation with the police investigation. We are deeply saddened by this accident and are fully cooperating with the police investigation, said a spokesperson for the Jihu brand. We will wait for the official police report before making any further statements.
The Zhuzhou City Public Security Bureau Traffic Police Detachment has issued a statementconfirming the details of the accident and the casualties.
At 7:36 am on September 23rd, Liu (male, 43) was driving a white sedan eastbound on the Lusong Bridge when he was rear-ended by a taxi driven by Wang (female, 54) near the middle of the bridge, the statement read. This caused Liu’s vehicle to lose control, veer into oncoming traffic, and collide with multiple vehicles, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to seven others.
The statement further confirmed that rescue, post-accident management, and investigation efforts arecurrently underway.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. While initial reports suggest that the Jihu driver may have lost control after being rear-ended, authorities are examining all possible factors, including vehicle malfunction and driver error.
