Japanese Yakitori Chain Torikizoku Opens First Overseas Branch in Taiwan

Taipei, Taiwan – The popular Japanese yakitori restaurant chain Torikizoku, headquartered in Osaka, opened its first overseas branch in Taiwan on September 20th. This marks a significant step for the chain as it expands itsreach beyond Japan, entering a market already saturated with Japanese restaurants.

The opening of the Taiwan branch comes at a time when Japanese cuisine is enjoying immense popularity inthe region. According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, over 560,000 Taiwanese tourists visited Japan in August, representing a 40% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge in tourism has fueleda growing demand for Japanese food and culture in Taiwan.

Torikizoku’s expansion into Taiwan is a strategic move to capitalize on this trend. The chain is known for its affordable pricing and high-quality yakitori skewers, awinning combination that has made it a favorite among Japanese consumers. The Taiwan branch will offer a similar menu, with all food and drinks priced at a uniform 100 Taiwanese dollars (approximately 450 Japanese yen), including alcoholic beverages.

“We have always strived to create stores that offer high-value servicesat low prices, said Tadashi Okura, CEO of Torikizoku’s holding company, during the grand opening ceremony. We are committed to becoming a beloved establishment for the people of Taiwan.”

Torikizoku’s target demographic in Taiwan is young adults and women, a segment known for itsaffinity for Japanese culture and dining experiences. The chain plans to open three more branches in Taiwan by the end of the year, aiming to establish a strong foothold in the market.

However, Torikizoku faces stiff competition from existing Japanese restaurants in Taiwan. The island nation boasts a diverse array of Japanese dining options, ranging from high-end sushi restaurants to casual ramen shops. This competitive landscape will require Torikizoku to differentiate itself and attract customers with its unique offerings.

The chain’s success in Taiwan will depend on its ability to adapt to local tastes and preferences. While the uniform pricing strategy has proven successful in Japan,it remains to be seen if it will resonate with Taiwanese consumers. Additionally, Torikizoku will need to navigate the challenges of sourcing high-quality ingredients and maintaining its standards in a new market.

Despite the challenges, Torikizoku’s entry into Taiwan signifies a growing trend of Japanese businesses expanding their operationsoverseas. As Japanese culture continues to gain popularity globally, more Japanese brands are likely to follow suit, seeking to tap into new markets and expand their reach.

The success of Torikizoku in Taiwan will be closely watched by industry observers as a barometer for the future of Japanese restaurant chains in the region. The chain’s ability to adapt to local tastes and preferences, while maintaining its brand identity, will be crucial to its success in this competitive market.
