Beijing, September 18, 2024 (Green Office App) – The China Meteorological Administration has continued to issue a typhoon blue alert as Typhoon Prasun (Tropical Storm level) is expected to make landfall along the Zhejiang coast in eastern China tomorrow afternoon to evening.
The center of Typhoon Prasun was located at 5 a.m. on September 18 at about 630 kilometers southeast of Naha, Okinawa, in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean, with the coordinates of 22.8 degrees north latitude and 132.6 degrees east longitude. The maximum wind speed near the center was 9 levels (23 meters per second), and the lowest central pressure was 990 hPa. The seven-level wind radius was 200-280 kilometers.
According to the forecast, Prasun will move northwest at a speed of 35-40 kilometers per hour, with its intensity gradually increasing. The typhoon is expected to enter the eastern sea of the East China Sea by the evening of September 18 and make landfall along the Zhejiang coast from the afternoon to evening on September 19 (at the level of a tropical storm or a strong tropical storm, with 8-10 levels, 20-25 meters per second), after which its intensity will gradually weaken.
Winds Forecast:
From 8 a.m. on September 18 to 8 a.m. on September 19, the majority of the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, the巴士海峡, the majority of the South China Sea, the Qiongzhou Strait, and the Beibu Gulf will have 6-8 level gales, with gusts up to 9 levels. In some areas of the East China Sea, the wind can reach 9-10 levels with gusts up to 11-12 levels.
Rainfall Forecast:
From 8 a.m. on September 18 to 8 a.m. on September 19, areas along the Zhejiang coast and northern coastal Fujian will experience moderate to heavy rain.
Precautionary Measures:
1. Governments and relevant departments should do their best to carry out emergency work for preventing typhoon disasters.
2. Waterborne operations and vessels passing through related waters should return to port to avoid the wind, reinforce port facilities, and prevent ships from drifting, grounding, and colliding.
3. Large indoor and outdoor gatherings and high-altitude dangerous outdoor operations should be stopped.
4. Dismantle or reinforce structures that are easy to be blown away by the wind, and people should not go out unnecessarily. They should stay in safe places as much as possible, ensuring that the elderly and children stay in the safest places at home, and people living in dangerous houses should be transferred in a timely manner.
5. Areas affected should pay attention to the potential for landslides and geological disasters triggered by heavy rainfall.
