Summary:

Enkhuizen, Netherlands – Authorities have arrested and remanded into custody a 26-year-old man from Enkhuizen on allegations of sexually abusing one child and creating child sexual abuse content involving several hundred others, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). The suspect was first reported to the police in 2022.

The OM spokesperson revealed that the man was accused of targeting boys between the ages of 10 and 16, both within the Netherlands and abroad. He was arrested earlier this week and was placed in custody on Friday afternoon.

The investigation into the case began in autumn 2022 when the police received the first two reports about the man. However, the scale of the allegations was not immediately apparent. Due to capacity issues at the Noord-Holland police, the Rotterdam police took over the case early this year. Subsequent investigations uncovered large amounts of material and images of abuse.

The OM has not yet disclosed the exact number of children who may have fallen victim to the man over the past two years. The authorities have identified about two-thirds of the potential victims and have spoken to around ten of them. The victims were led to believe they were communicating with a young girl, not realizing that the contact was with an adult man.

The suspect is alleged to have posed as a girl online, convincing minor boys to perform sexual acts for him, which he recorded and kept. So far, one boy has pressed charges against him. The OM anticipates that more charges will be filed as they continue their investigation.

The examining magistrate has ruled that the man will spend two weeks in custody, with the possibility of extending his detention for consecutive 90-day periods by a district court.

The OM is seeking more information from the victims about how the suspect made contact with them and encouraged them to commit sexual acts. The footage has been categorized by severity, with the police planning to contact the victims of the most intense images.
