World Dance Champions Bring Glamour to Chengdu Streets
Chengdu, China -Ahead of the 12th World DanceSport Championships, which will be heldin Chengdu from September 21st to 22nd, world-renowned dance champions have been captivating the city with their grace and skill. With over 1,200 competitors from 31 countries and regions registered for the event, the excitement is palpable in Chengdu.
The champions, eager to experience thecity’s vibrant culture and share their passion for dance, have been engaging in a series of Seven Entrances activities, taking their talents to various public spaces across Chengdu.
On September 19th, the champions took to thestreets, bringing a touch of international flair to local landmarks. German Latin dance duo Daniel Dingis and Elisa Allegra Gilli, winners of the Latvian International Open in 2023 and silver medalists at the German Open this year,wowed crowds at Chengdu’s Happy Valley theme park.
The duo, who have been dancing together for five and a half years, were making their fifth trip to China but their first to Chengdu. Their performance, a captivating blend of Latin and Rumba, drew cheers from onlookers.
Welove Chengdu, said Daniel and Elisa, who even demonstrated their newly learned Sichuanese phrase, Chengdu, bashi de ban (Chengdu, very comfortable), eliciting laughter from the crowd.
The champions expressed their excitement for the upcoming competition, stating, The World DanceSport Championships are filled withtop talent. We will give our best performance and hope to win the championship!
Later that afternoon, the champions moved to the picturesque Tianfu Art Park, a testament to Chengdu’s commitment to urban green spaces. Joining the German duo was the Portuguese pair, Renato Pirade Bras and Catarina Alexandra AbulGamego.
The champions strolled through the park’s tree-lined paths, enjoying the scenery and taking photos. They then visited the park’s art museum, immersing themselves in Chengdu’s rich cultural history. The exhibits, showcasing local life, the scenic beauty of Mount Qingcheng and Jiuzhaigou, and the charm of Western Sichuan, sparked their interest in Chengdu’s laid-back lifestyle, the legendary Sichuan-Tibet Highway, Taoist culture, and the breathtaking landscapes of Jiuzhaigou.
The champions then treated the park visitors to another dazzling dance performance, culminating in a lively demonstration ofbasic dance steps for eager onlookers.
I usually enjoy square dancing, but seeing the world champions dance in the park was amazing, said 62-year-old Wu, a local resident. I might try Latin dance myself.
The Seven Entrances activities, a key component of the WorldDanceSport Championships, embody Chengdu’s vision of hosting events, building a city, promoting industry, and benefiting the people.
