Amazon Launches AI Shopping Assistant Rufus for US Customers
Seattle,Washington – Amazon has officially launched its AI-powered shopping assistant, Rufus,for all US customers. The new feature, accessible through the Amazon shopping app and desktop website, utilizes generative AI technology similar to ChatGPT to help shoppers make more informed purchasing decisions.
Rufus is designed to answer questions and provide personalized recommendations based on user queries. When browsing Amazon, users can ask Rufus questions about specific products, theirfeatures, customer reviews, and even compare different options. The AI assistant can also suggest products based on user needs and preferences, offering tailored recommendations for various scenarios.
For example, a user might ask Rufus, What are the bestheadphones for running? or When will my order arrive? Rufus will then scour product listings, customer reviews, and community Q&A to provide a comprehensive and accurate answer, along with relevant product links.
This is still earlydays for generative AI and Rufus, Amazon stated, acknowledging that the feature is currently in beta testing. This means users may encounter instances where Rufus’ responses are not as helpful or accurate as expected.
Despite being in its early stages, Rufus offers a significant leap forward in AI-powered shopping assistance. Unlike previous AItools that were limited in scope, Rufus is remarkably flexible. It can handle a wide range of queries, from product-specific questions to more general inquiries like What do I need for a summer party?
To access Rufus, US customers need to ensure their Amazon shopping app is updated. The Rufus icon, achat bubble with a flash of light, can be found at the bottom of the app’s navigation bar. On the desktop website, the Rufus icon is located in the top left corner of the screen.
Upon clicking the icon, a chat window opens where users can type their questions or choose from a list ofpre-written prompts. Rufus will then respond with relevant information and product links.
The introduction of Rufus marks a significant step forward in Amazon’s efforts to enhance the shopping experience through AI.
