Seoul, September 6 (Yonhap News Agency) – The 2024 Korean Cultural Tourism Expo officially opened in Taipei on September 6, marking a significant cultural and tourism event between South Korea and Taiwan. Organized by the South Korea Cultural Sports and Tourism Ministry (MOCST) and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the expo is set to run until September 8 at the Huashan 1914 Cultural and Creative Park.
The event showcases the rich cultural heritage and diverse tourism offerings of South Korea, attracting a wide range of participants. Representing the regions of Gyeonggi, Gyeongsang, Gangwon, and others, six provincial-level local governments, along with 31 domestic and international travel companies, are part of the expo.
Highlighting South Korea’s Cultural Depth
The opening ceremony featured a dynamic Talk Concert hosted by Lee Chang-seok, a member of the boy band BTOB. The event combined speeches and performances, including traditional Korean music by the National Gugak Institute, musicals, and the Rakdang Show, a traditional Korean drumming performance.
Enhancing Tourism Opportunities
The expo also aims to boost tourism between South Korea and Taiwan. Currently, direct flights are available from several Taiwanese airports to Busan, Daegu, Cheongju, Jeju, and other locations in South Korea. Recognizing the growing demand for travel outside of the capital city, the KTO is targeting to attract 2,000 Taiwanese tourists to Gyeongsang and Jeollan provinces by the end of the year.
To achieve this goal, the KTO will collaborate with local online travel agencies to organize various promotional activities. These efforts will focus on cultivating groups of Korean tourism enthusiasts in Taiwan.
K-POP and Culinary Delights
In addition, the KTO plans to host a K-POP Food event in Kaohsiung in December, targeting local fans of Korean pop culture. This initiative aims to further strengthen the cultural ties between the two nations.
Promoting Cultural Exchange
The 2024 Korean Cultural Tourism Expo is not only a platform for showcasing South Korea’s tourism attractions but also an opportunity to foster cultural exchange and deepen the relationship between South Korea and Taiwan. By promoting the country’s cultural heritage and tourism potential, the expo aims to attract more international visitors to South Korea.
Conclusion
The successful opening of the 2024 Korean Cultural Tourism Expo in Taipei highlights the growing interest in South Korea’s cultural and tourism offerings. As the event continues until September 8, visitors can expect a variety of engaging activities that showcase the best of South Korea’s cultural heritage and tourism attractions. This event is a testament to the strong cultural ties between South Korea and Taiwan and the potential for further collaboration in the tourism sector.
