AZ Alkmaar Dazzles with Record-Breaking Victory Over Heerenveen, Feyenoord Struggles to Maintain Form

In a stunning Eredivisie clash on Saturday, AZ Alkmaar shattered records as they trounced SC Heerenveen with a resounding 9-1 victory at the AFAS stadium. This win marked the Alkmaarders’ biggest triumph in the league’s history, propelling them to second place in the standings.

The match was a one-sided affair from the onset. Just four minutes into the game, Sven Mijnans put AZ ahead with a well-placed shot. Despite Heerenveen’s valiant effort to equalize, Luuk Brouwers’s header in the 19th minute levelled the score temporarily. However, AZ’s dominance soon resumed as Ibrahim Sadiq and Troy Parrot, the Irish striker, struck twice in quick succession to reclaim the lead.

Parrot’s first Eredivisie goal for his new club came after a Sadiq assist, and the goals kept coming. Parrot’s second goal was the result of a combination with Sadiq, who capitalised on a mistake by Feyenoord’s goalkeeper, Mickey van der Hart. Parrot then completed his hat-trick with a goal in the 56th minute, leaving Heerenveen’s defense in tatters.

The goals kept flowing as Mexx Meerdink and Kristijan Belic added to the tally for AZ, while Zico Buurmeester completed the scoring with a tap-in. The final whistle blew with AZ leading 9-1, leaving them two points behind league leaders PSV Eindhoven.

On the other end of the Eredivisie spectrum, Feyenoord failed to secure a win for the second time in their first four games under new manager Brian Priske. The Rotterdam club’s struggles continued as they drew their third match of the season against FC Groningen. Despite a 2-0 lead courtesy of Bart Nieuwkoop and Igor Paixao, Feyenoord was unable to maintain their advantage.

Groningen fought back, with Brynjólfur Darri Willumsson scoring two goals in the second half, ensuring a 2-2 draw and moving them three points ahead of Feyenoord in the league table. The new manager is under increased pressure as Feyenoord now sits in fifth place.

In the top spot, last season’s champions PSV Eindhoven continued their strong start to the season, defeating NEC Nijmegen 2-0. Luuk de Jong scored both goals for PSV, ensuring they remain unbeaten at the top of the Eredivisie table.
