China’s embassy in the United Kingdom has responded to the recent joint statement by the United States and the United Kingdom during their strategic dialogue, which contained what China deemed as erroneous remarks concerning Taiwan, the South China Sea, and China’s stance on the Ukraine conflict.
According to a report from the China News Service, the spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in the UK expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the joint statement during a press conference. The spokesperson emphasized that the statement was an unwarranted attack on China, an interference in China’s internal affairs, and that China strongly rejects it.
The spokesperson highlighted the following points in response to the joint statement:
1. Taiwan Issue
The spokesperson emphasized that the Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affair, and any external forces have no right to interfere. They pointed out that the greatest threat to the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is the Taiwan independence separatist activities and external interference. China is firmly committed to opposing the separatist activities of the Taiwan independence forces and firmly opposes any external interference in the Taiwan issue.
2. South China Sea
The spokesperson stated that China has undeniable territorial sovereignty and maritime rights in the South China Sea. They mentioned that China conducts normal cruise law enforcement in its territorial waters, in accordance with international laws, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The spokesperson also pointed out that the Philippine ships’ unauthorized entry into relevant waters seriously violates the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and seriously endangers the peace and stability of the South China Sea. They urged the UK and the US, as extraterritorial states, to respect facts and stop any actions that provoke confrontation.
3. Ukraine Conflict
Regarding the Ukraine conflict, the spokesperson stated that China has always maintained an objective and just stance, actively promoting peace and dialogue, and seeking a political solution. They strongly opposed the spread of false information about China supporting Russia’s defense industry and urged the UK and the US to stop fuelling the fire and shirking responsibility.
The Chinese embassy’s spokesperson concluded by stating that China will continue to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity and will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
The response from the Chinese embassy in the UK reflects China’s firm stance on key issues such as the Taiwan issue, the South China Sea, and the Ukraine conflict. It also highlights China’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region and its rejection of external interference in its internal affairs.
