SEOUL, September 5, 2024 – The 10th Sino-Korea-Japan Ministerial Meeting on Tourism and the 15th Sino-Korea-Japan Ministerial Meeting on Culture will be held in Kobe and Kyoto, Japan from October 10 to 12, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Republic of Korea.
The meetings come five years after the last trilateral tourism ministers’ meeting and are expected to focus on revitalizing post-pandemic tourism and fostering sustainable tourism that balances environmental, economic, and social factors.
The meetings will be attended by the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, Yoo Jeong-hwan, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, Zhang Zheng, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism of Japan, Shigefumi Matsuzawa, and Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, Seiichi Nakajima.
The meetings will see the issuance of a joint declaration that aims to establish a common goal of rapidly resuming and upgrading post-pandemic tourism exchanges. The declaration will also emphasize promoting sustainable tourism that takes into account environmental, economic, and social factors, as well as revitalizing regional tourism to improve the quality of tourism exchanges.
The three parties will also issue a joint declaration at the culture ministers’ meeting, covering trilateral cooperation plans in strengthening cultural exchanges and cooperation among the younger generation, achieving sustainable urban development through culture, and supporting creative activities after the digital transformation in the cultural sector.
In addition, the three countries will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) for the 2025-2026 Sino-Korea-Japan Cultural Exchange Year and present plaques to the cities selected as the Capital of East Asian Culture for 2025.
The meetings are expected to strengthen cooperation and exchanges between the three countries in the fields of tourism and culture, contributing to the promotion of regional development and the enhancement of people’s cultural awareness.
