Iran’s newly elected President, Ebrahim Raisi, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening strategic relations with China during his first post-inauguration press conference. Speaking to journalists from China Central Television (CCTV), President Raisi expressed his support for China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation between the two nations.

During the press conference, which was held on September 16, President Raisi emphasized that Iran and China enjoy a strong relationship and that he looks forward to more collaboration in the future. He stated that Iran will continue to strengthen its strategic partnership with China, emphasizing the need to implement the Comprehensive Cooperation Plan between the two countries.

The two countries should continue to execute the Comprehensive Cooperation Plan, President Raisi said. Iran supports China’s Belt and Road Initiative and is committed to enhancing strategic relations with China.

President Raisi also commended China for its efforts in facilitating the resumption of diplomatic ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia, describing it as a significant step towards regional harmony.

This is a big step towards regional harmony, he said, referring to China’s role in mediating between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The new Iranian president’s statements come at a time when the relationship between Iran and China has been increasingly important, particularly in light of the United States’ withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and its subsequent sanctions against Iran.

China, as a major trading partner of Iran, has played a crucial role in supporting Iran’s economy and providing an alternative to Western sanctions. The two countries have also been working closely on various infrastructure projects under the BRI.

In response to President Raisi’s statements, Chinese officials have expressed their support for the deepening of bilateral ties. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China values its relationship with Iran and is committed to enhancing cooperation in various fields, including trade, energy, and security.

The Chinese side highly values its relations with Iran and is willing to work with the Iranian side to enhance strategic communication, deepen practical cooperation, and promote regional peace and stability, Foreign Minister Wang said during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

The new president’s remarks have been welcomed by both the Iranian and Chinese populations, who see the strengthening of bilateral relations as a positive step towards regional stability and economic development.

As Iran and China continue to work together on various projects and initiatives, the relationship between the two countries is expected to grow stronger, further solidifying their positions as key players in the Middle East and Asia.
