New High-Speed Rail Line Connects Guangdong and Fujian, ShorteningTravel Times
Meizhou, Guangdong Province, September 13,2024 – The long-awaited Meizhou West to Longchuan West section of the Longyan-Longchuan High-Speed Railway (referred toas the Longlong High-Speed Railway Meilong section) will officially open for passenger service on September 14th, 2024.This new line marks a significant step in connecting the eastern Guangdong region with the rest of the country, offering faster and more convenient travel options for passengers.
The Meilong section, spanning 93.982 kilometers, ispart of the larger Longyan-Longchuan High-Speed Railway project, which stretches for 290 kilometers, connecting Longyan City in Fujian Province to Longchuan West Station in Guangdong Province. The entire project is divided into threesections: Longyan to Wuping, Wuping to Meizhou, and Meizhou to Longchuan. The first section, Longyan to Wuping, was already opened in December 2023, while the Wuping to Meizhou section is currently under construction.
The newly opened Meilong section features two newly built stations: Xingning South Station and Wuhu Station. It also includes a connecting line to the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway, facilitating seamless travel between the two lines. Designed for a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the Meilong section willsignificantly reduce travel time between key cities.
With the opening of the Meilong section, the Longlong High-Speed Railway will form a loop with other existing high-speed rail lines, including the Meizhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway, Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway, Xiamen-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway, and Guangzhou-Shenzhen section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway. This interconnected network will create a more efficient and convenient transportation system for passengers traveling within the region.
The new line will offer significant travel time reductions. Passengers traveling between Meizhou WestStation and Longchuan West Station will be able to reach their destination in just 29 minutes, a reduction of 1 hour and 14 minutes compared to the previous route via Zhangping. Similarly, travel time between Meizhou West Station and Guangzhou East Station will be reduced to 1 hour and 47minutes, a reduction of 2 hours and 5 minutes compared to the previous route via Meizhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway, Guangzhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway, and Hangzhou-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway. The travel time between Meizhou West Station and Shenzhen North Station will also bereduced to 1 hour and 36 minutes, a reduction of 1 hour and 2 minutes compared to the previous route.
The opening of the Meilong section is expected to have a significant impact on the economic development of the region.
