Beijing, September 10 (Yonhap News Agency) – The Chinese Football Association (CFA) has announced a lifetime ban on South Korean footballer Son Jun-ho from participating in any activities related to the sport. The decision comes following a thorough investigation into allegations of misconduct and illegal activities.
According to the CFA’s official website announcement, Son was found guilty of seeking不正当 interests, engaging in illegal transactions, manipulating football matches, and obtaining illegal gains. As a result, the association has decided to permanently prohibit Son from participating in any activities related to football.
Son, who played for the Shandong Taishan football club, was detained by Chinese police at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in May last year before returning to South Korea. He was then placed under criminal detention and investigated by the Liaoning Provincial Public Security Bureau on suspicion of non-state personnel bribery.
Following the expiration of his criminal detention period in June of the same year, the People’s Procuratorate of Liaoning Province approved his arrest. There are speculations that Son may have been involved in a match-fixing scandal or offered bribes during his transfer to Shandong Taishan, but Son has strongly denied these allegations.
After his release from custody earlier this year, Son returned to South Korea. However, his future in football remains uncertain after the CFA’s decision.
The CFA’s decision to ban Son from the sport has sparked discussions within the South Korean football community. Some believe that the ban will have a significant impact on the player’s career and reputation, while others argue that it is a necessary measure to protect the integrity of the sport.
The CFA’s decision is also expected to have international implications. According to a statement from the Korea Football Association (KFA), if a national football association notifies FIFA of a disciplinary decision involving players at a certain level, the decision will be applicable internationally. In this case, if the CFA’s decision to permanently ban Son is notified to FIFA, it will also be applicable in South Korea.
Son’s ban from the football industry comes at a time when the sport is facing numerous challenges, including match-fixing allegations and concerns about player integrity. The CFA’s decision to impose a lifetime ban on Son is a strong message that the association is committed to maintaining the integrity of the sport and will not tolerate any form of misconduct.
As the football world continues to grapple with issues of corruption and match-fixing, the CFA’s decision to ban Son Jun-ho for life serves as a reminder that the integrity of the sport must be protected at all costs.
