Yangzhou Opens Government Canteen and Parking Lots to Tourists During National Day Holiday
YANGZHOU, Jiangsu Province, China – The ancient cityof Yangzhou, renowned for its rich culture and beautiful scenery, is once again rolling out the welcome mat for tourists during the upcoming National Day holiday. The citygovernment has announced that it will continue its tradition of opening its canteen and parking lots to visitors, offering a taste of local hospitality and easing parking woes.
Thecity’s government canteen, located in the West Courtyard of the municipal government building, will be serving up traditional Huaiyang cuisine to visitors from October 1st to 7th. The canteen will be open for lunch and dinner,offering a convenient and affordable option for tourists looking to experience the local flavors.
In addition to the canteen, 42 internal parking lots belonging to government agencies and enterprises in the city’s main urban area will be open to tourists,offering a total of 2,481 parking spaces. This initiative, which began in 2019, aims to alleviate the parking pressure that often arises during peak tourist seasons.
The city’s decision to open its government facilities to tourists stems from the recognition of Yangzhou’s unique seasonal tourismcharacteristics. The city experiences significant tourist surges during the March of Flowers and Golden Autumn seasons, leading to parking difficulties and crowded attractions.
In 2019, the Yangzhou Municipal Committee and Government issued a policy to enhance tourism services and create a more welcoming environment for visitors. This policy includedthe free opening of government parking lots during major holidays and the provision of free public transportation for out-of-town residents. The opening of government canteens, offering local cuisine, was also introduced as part of this initiative.
The 2019 National Day holiday saw the Yangzhou government courtyard become a popularcheck-in spot for tourists, highlighting the success of the program. Since then, the practice of opening government canteens and parking lots to visitors has become a regular feature during major holidays.
This year, Yangzhou is further enhancing its tourism infrastructure to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for visitors. The citywill be increasing the frequency of bus services along popular tourist routes and high-speed rail hubs, extending operating hours for key bus lines, and continuing its policy of free public transportation for out-of-town visitors using their ID cards.
To address the parking needs of tourists, Yangzhou will be opening temporary parking areasat the former Commercial College and Qionghua Building. The city will also be opening 470 parking spaces for tour buses along four major roads: Niansiqiao Road, Gaoqiao Road, Jiefang North Road, and Xu Ningmen Road. Additionally, 2,430 parking spaces along 15 roads, including Yangzi River North Road and Shouxisi Lake Road, will be available for smaller vehicles.
The city will also continue to promote the use of QR codes to help tourists locate available parking spaces, providing real-time information on parking lot locations and availability.
