Service Sector Embraces Emerging Technologies: DevSecOps, GAI, FIDOand 5G Private Networks Take the Lead
Taipei, Taiwan –August 30, 2024 – The service sector in Taiwan continues to be a driving force in the adoption of emerging technologies, with afocus on digital transformation and innovation. According to the iThome 2024 CIO Survey, the service sector has witnessed a double-digit growth inIT budgets for the past three years, with a significant 13.1% increase in digital transformation budgets this year.
DevSecOps, GAI, FIDO, and 5G Private Networks Emerge as TopTechnologies
The survey highlights four key emerging technologies that are gaining traction in the service sector: DevSecOps, Generative AI (GAI), FIDO (Fast Identity Online) network identity, and 5G private networks.
- DevSecOps: The service sector has been a strong adopter of DevOps in recent years, and this year, they are increasingly prioritizing security integration into the development process through DevSecOps. This shift reflects a growing awareness of the importance of security throughout the software development lifecycle.
- GAI: The servicesector is enthusiastically embracing the GAI wave, with ChatGPT-like applications seeing a significant increase in adoption. This trend is driving businesses to adopt cloud-based services for faster implementation and integration of GAI technologies.
- FIDO: To reduce friction in digital channels, the service sector is witnessing a rise inthe adoption of FIDO network identity. The survey indicates a 15% increase in companies planning to implement FIDO this year.
- 5G Private Networks: Taiwan opened applications for 5G private networks in June 2023, and the service sector has quickly embraced this technology. While smart factory applications remain the most prevalent use case, the survey reveals a significant 23% adoption for smart exhibition and 7.7% for smart tourism, demonstrating the versatility of 5G private networks in the service sector.
Hybrid Cloud and Kubernetes Remain Mainstream, but Trends Shift
The survey reveals that hybrid cloud and Kubernetes container technology continue to be the dominant IT infrastructure choices. However, the adoption rate of Kubernetes has stagnated this year, suggesting a shift towards cloud-based services. This trend is likely influenced by the growing adoption of GAI applications, with companies opting for readily available cloud services forfaster integration.
Data and AI: Beyond Generative AI
While GAI applications are capturing significant attention, the service sector continues to invest in traditional non-generative AI/ML technologies. RPA (Robotic Process Automation), CDP (Customer Data Platform), and mobile AI applications remain mainstream. However, the adoption of data lakes has declined this year, with some companies opting for cloud-based data storage solutions instead of building their own infrastructure.
AP Architecture and Development: GitOps Takes Center Stage
DevOps, agile development, microservices architecture, Open API, middleware architecture, and GitOpsare the dominant trends in the service sector’s AP architecture and development. The survey highlights a particular emphasis on GitOps, with a growing number of companies adopting this approach year after year.
Methodology
The iThome CIO and Cybersecurity Survey was conducted from February 15th to March 15th, 2024, with a total of 422 valid responses from IT and cybersecurity executives in large enterprises, previous CIO survey participants, government agencies, and universities. The respondents included 71.8% CIOs and 62.8% cybersecurity executives. The survey covered variousindustries, including general manufacturing (17.8%), high-tech manufacturing (22.7%), service (23.7%), finance (12.8%), healthcare (13.3%), and government/education (9.7%).
Conclusion
The service sector in Taiwan is actively embracingemerging technologies to drive digital transformation and innovation. The adoption of DevSecOps, GAI, FIDO, and 5G private networks reflects a strategic focus on security, efficiency, and enhanced customer experiences. As the technology landscape continues to evolve, the service sector will likely remain at the forefront of innovation, leveraging emerging technologies to stay ahead of the curve.
