Leica M11-D: A Minimalist Rangefinder Camera Set to LaunchThis Week
Hong Kong, September 7, 2024 – Leica, the renowned German camera manufacturer, is set to unveil its latest rangefinder camera, the Leica M11-D, this Thursday, September12th. The camera, rumored to be a stripped-down version of the current M11-P, is expected to retail for approximately HK$80,810 (around €9,350).
The Leica M11-D, internally known as Type 2221, follows in the footsteps of the M-D Typ 262 and M10-D by eliminating the rear display screen. This means users will not have access to live view or image playback. Instead, the M11-D features an ISO sensitivity dial similar to the M-DTyp 262, replacing the dual-layer dial found on the M10-D that combined the camera power switch and exposure compensation adjustment.
The M11-D also ditches the film camera-inspired rewind lever design on the right side of the top plate, seen in the M10-D. The layout now closely resembles the M11 and M11-P. Additionally, the iconic Leica red dot logo on the front of the camera has been removed, giving the M11-D a more understated appearance, ideal for discreet shooting.
In terms of specifications, the Leica M11-D is expected to boast a 60-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with a sensitivity range of ISO 64 – 50000. It will also feature Leica’s Triple Resolution Technology, allowing users to select between 60-megapixel,36-megapixel, or 18-megapixel output for 14-bit DNG raw files.
The M11-D will come equipped with 256GB of internal memory, a significant upgrade from the 2GB found in the M10-D.This allows users to store a larger number of DNG images. The SD card slot can further expand storage capacity to a massive 2TB.
The Leica M11-D is expected to appeal to photographers who prioritize a minimalist shooting experience and value the classic rangefinder aesthetic. Its lack of a display screenencourages a more deliberate and focused approach to photography, reminiscent of traditional film cameras.
