引言

疟疾,一种由疟原虫引起的传染病,每年导致数百万人的健康受损,甚至死亡。蚊子作为疟疾的传播媒介,一直是科学家们关注的焦点。然而,传统的杀虫剂已经无法有效控制蚊子的数量,甚至导致蚊子产生耐药性。近日,我国科学家王四宝团队提出了一种新的思路:通过“治愈”蚊子,让它们不再携带疟原虫,从而抑制疟疾的传播。

研究背景

2009年,王四宝团队开始研究蚊子与微生物的互作关系。当时,全球每年有三到五亿人感染疟疾,100多万人死亡。这一触目惊心的数据,让王四宝下定决心,要研究这个给人类健康带来极大威胁的昆虫——蚊子。

创新思路:治愈蚊子

传统的抗疟思路主要有两个方向:控制蚊子的数量,以及给疟疾患者吃药治疗疾病。然而,这两种方法都存在局限性。为了攻克致命传染病,王四宝团队提出了一个创新的思路:能不能通过治愈蚊子,让蚊子不再携带疟原虫,从而抑制疟疾的传播?

研究成果:发现抗疟核心菌

王四宝团队研究发现,蚊子的肠道是疟原虫在蚊体内发育的最大屏障,是歼灭疟原虫的绝佳战场。他们从蚊子的肠道中寻找能够天然对抗疟原虫的细菌,最终在腾冲的蚊子身上找到了一种抗疟核心菌——解脲沙雷氏菌Su_YN1。

应用前景:活菌制剂抗击疟疾

解脲沙雷氏菌Su_YN1可以通过交配和繁殖传播。王四宝团队计划把这种抗疟核心菌制作成活菌制剂,让疟疾疫区的蚊子吃下去,在蚊子的肠道中阻击疟原虫。这样,蚊子体内就像装备了一个对抗疟原虫的益生菌或生化武器,还能很快地将其传递给身边的蚊子。
