Xian, China – In a significant development for China-Europe trade, two new full-freight air routes have been launched from Xian to Liege, Belgium, and to Budapest, Hungary. These new routes, set to boost economic ties between the two regions, were officially launched on September 6th with a grand opening ceremony in the Xi’an-Xianyang International Airport.
The Xian-Liege route, which took off on September 5th at 21:55, is set to carry over 50 tons of e-commerce goods to Belgium. The route is planned to operate 104 flights annually, with two round trips per week. It will primarily transport cross-border e-commerce goods, clothing, electronic products, and equipment, as well as general trade goods. In return, the flights will import European pharmaceuticals, precision instruments, food, and international express parcels. It is expected to provide approximately 6,300 tons of air cargo capacity between China and Europe each year.
The Xian-Budapest route is scheduled to complete its first flight on September 7th. Similar to the Liege route, it is also planned to operate 104 flights annually with two round trips per week, bringing around 6,000 tons of international cargo to Xian.
These new routes are a major step forward in the expansion of the Silk Road in the Sky and represent a significant breakthrough for the Xi’an-Xianyang International Airport and the West咸 New Area Airport New City in promoting high-level opening-up and deepening cooperation with foreign enterprises.
We will use this opportunity to provide better services to flights, passengers, and development, said Zhang Wei, the Secretary of the Communist Party Committee and Director of the Administration Committee of the West咸 New Area Airport New City.
As an important base for opening up in Xi’an and Shaanxi, the West咸 New Area Airport New City has actively integrated into the Belt and Road initiative, aiming to create an international logistics channel for the westward opening-up. To date, the West咸 New Area Airport New City has jointly opened 47 full-freight routes with the Western Airports Group, forming an initial freight route network with Silk Road贯通, direct to Europe and America, and connected to five continents.
These new air routes are expected to greatly facilitate the trade and economic cooperation between China and Europe, particularly in the areas of e-commerce, technology, and pharmaceuticals. They also represent a significant step in China’s efforts to expand its international trade networks and strengthen its economic ties with the rest of the world.
The launch of these new routes is seen as a significant milestone in China’s broader strategy of enhancing its connectivity with the world, particularly through the Belt and Road initiative. It also underscores China’s commitment to opening up to the world and promoting economic globalization.
As China continues to deepen its economic integration with the world, these new air routes are expected to play a crucial role in facilitating trade and investment flows between China and Europe. They will also provide new opportunities for businesses and consumers in both regions, as well as contribute to the broader goal of promoting global economic growth and stability.
