Beijing, China – September 6, 2024

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its firm opposition to the United States’ practice of politicizing economic, trade, and technology issues. This stance was articulated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Mao Ning, during a regular press briefing on September 6.

In response to a question regarding the U.S. Department of Commerce’s announcement of further strengthening export restrictions on semiconductor manufacturing and other technologies, Mao Ning emphasized China’s consistent opposition to the U.S. approach. He stated that China believes the U.S. action of artificially creating obstacles to normal technological cooperation and economic exchanges violates the principles of market economy, disrupts the stability of global industrial and supply chains, and does not serve the interests of any party.

This practice is detrimental to the stability and development of the global economy and runs counter to the trend of economic globalization, Mao Ning said.

The spokesperson further noted that China has always advocated for resolving economic and trade issues through dialogue and cooperation, and has actively promoted the building of an open, inclusive, and non-discriminatory international economic order.

China’s stance on the issue reflects its commitment to the principles of free trade and fair competition, and its determination to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its own enterprises and citizens.

The U.S. decision to impose additional export restrictions on semiconductor manufacturing and other technologies has been met with criticism from various quarters. Critics argue that such measures are aimed at containing China’s technological development and will only harm the global semiconductor industry.

China has repeatedly called on the United States to abandon its Cold War mentality and zero-sum game mindset, and to create a fair, just, and non-discriminatory environment for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

The Chinese government has also vowed to take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and the legitimate rights and interests of its citizens.

In conclusion, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ strong opposition to the U.S. practice of politicizing economic, trade, and technology issues highlights China’s commitment to the principles of free trade and fair competition, and its determination to protect its national interests. As the global economy continues to evolve, it is crucial for countries to work together to promote economic growth and stability, rather than engaging in protectionist and unilateral measures.
