Yongzhou, Hunan Province, September 6 (Xinhua News Agency) – In recent years, Xintian County in Yongzhou, Hunan Province, has leveraged its selenium and strontium resources and its advantageous location adjacent to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to actively promote the Xintian Selenium and Strontium agricultural brand. This initiative has not only achieved agricultural growth and increased income for farmers but has also allowed Xintian selenium-enriched vegetables to enter the international market, paving the way for a distinctive path of agricultural development.
Morning at Dongsheng Farm: Sorting and Packaging Vegetables for Export
Every morning, workers at Dongsheng Farm in Xintian County meticulously sort and package various vegetables and fruits. Each box is labeled and loaded onto trucks for transportation, which takes over seven hours to reach Hong Kong. Liu Wen, the farm’s manager, said that this year, many tour groups from Hong Kong visited the farm for vegetable picking tours. The farm plans to continue using vegetables as a medium to package agricultural tourism projects to attract more Hong Kong tourists to Xintian.
Dongsheng Farm: A Hub for High-Quality Agricultural Products
Dongsheng Farm is a high-quality agricultural product supply base in Hunan Province and a vegetable basket base for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With a core vegetable planting area of 6,500 acres, the farm exports 70 tons of vegetables daily. To ensure export quality, the farm strictly monitors the production process, including the production environment, production process, facilities, management services, and post-harvest processing, establishing a complete quality traceability system. The farm has also obtained the qualification for centralized customs declaration of vegetables exported to Hong Kong and has opened a direct express line for vegetable exports, achieving zero-time delay.
Xintian Vegetables: A Gateway to International Markets
In addition to supplying the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Xintian’s vegetables are also exported to North America, Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia, entering many high-end supermarkets. By focusing on the development of its vegetable industry, Xintian County actively promotes the large-scale, standardized, intensive, and brand development of crops such as Xintian Chinese cabbage, Xintian mushrooms, Xintian soybeans, and Three-Flavor chili. Xintian Chinese cabbage has been selected as one of the top ten local specialties in Hunan Province, and organic Chinese cabbage, sweet potato rice, and organic rice have won the Gold Award at the China Central Plains (Hunan) Agricultural Products Fair.
Xintian Chili: A Harvest of Success
In the first five months of this year, the value of Xintian’s vegetable exports reached 1.91 billion yuan, and Dongsheng Farm was recognized as a national-level agricultural trade high-quality development base. Currently, the county has successfully established 20 provincial and municipal vegetable characteristic industrial parks and 17 vegetable basket bases for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Through the development of its characteristic vegetable industry, Xintian County has achieved increased land productivity and income for farmers.
