Shanghai, China – Starting from midnight on September 5th, the Hukun Airway Channel’s airspace optimization plan has officially been implemented, marking a significant expansion of the east-west air traffic artery connecting China’s Yangtze River Delta world-class airport cluster with the Kunming International Hub.
The new plan, which has been in the works for some time, transforms the airway from a relative single-lane operation to a single-direction dual-lane system, effectively increasing its capacity by 32%.
According to a spokesperson from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) Air Traffic Management Bureau, the Hukun Airway Channel covers five provinces and the city of Shanghai along its route, linking seven airports: Shanghai Hongqiao, Shanghai Pudong, Hangzhou Xiaoshan, Nanchang Changbei, Changsha Huanghua, Guiyang Longdongbao, and Kunming Changshui.
The core of the Hukun Airway Channel’s airspace optimization plan consists of two parallel routes. The eastern section connects to the Shanghai terminal area, while the western section connects to Kunming Airport, establishing a one-directional loop operation for the airway’s backbone.
Thirteen new routes have been opened, with nine routes adjusted. This has resulted in an additional 4,707 kilometers of route mileage, as well as 19 arrival and departure routes for six new airports. The flight procedures for 21 airports along the route have also been adjusted, benefiting more than 1,400 flights per day, which accounts for approximately 8% of all flights in China.
The implementation of the Hukun Airway Channel will significantly enhance airway capacity. According to simulation assessments, the airway’s capacity can be increased by approximately 32%, making the skyway wider and more fluid.
Since 2013, the civil aviation industry has completed the construction of eight major airway channels and two duplicate lines, significantly improving the backbone airway network’s carrying capacity. This has met the needs of the industry’s rapid development and has effectively supported local economic construction.
The Hukun Airway Channel’s expansion is part of a broader effort by the Chinese government to optimize air traffic routes and enhance the country’s aviation infrastructure. This move is expected to not only improve the efficiency of air travel but also contribute to the growth of the aviation industry and the overall economic development of the regions involved.
Industry experts have praised the new plan, stating that it will not only improve air traffic flow but also reduce delays and enhance safety. They believe that the increased capacity will allow for more flights to be scheduled, benefiting both airlines and passengers.
The Hukun Airway Channel’s airspace optimization plan is a testament to China’s commitment to modernizing its aviation infrastructure and ensuring the efficient and safe movement of air traffic. As the country continues to grow and develop, such initiatives are crucial to supporting its expanding aviation industry and the broader economy.
In conclusion, the launch of the Hukun Airway Channel’s airspace optimization plan represents a significant step forward for China’s aviation industry. With increased capacity and improved air traffic flow, the channel is poised to become a crucial link in the country’s air transportation network.
