Irish Man, 35, Charged with Coercing Child in Dutch Shoplifting Scheme
In a shocking case of alleged child exploitation, Dutch authorities have arrested a 35-year-old Irish man suspected of using a young boy as a partner in a shoplifting spree across several Dutch cities. The suspect, who is believed to be part of an Irish gang, was apprehended following tips received after the police discussed the case on the popular Dutch television program, Opsporing Verzocht.
The incident came to light when footage showed the man entering a Gorssel drugstore with a boy, presumably around 10 years old. The boy was instructed to hold an open bag while the man filled it with items. Afterward, the man obstructed the staff’s view of the exit as the boy left with the bag, reportedly following the man’s instructions.
The suspect, identified as an Irish national, is also alleged to have engaged in shoplifting with the same child in Apeldoorn, Doetinchem, Putten, Dieren, and Eden. In a chilling twist, the police believe he also used another child in a shoplifting incident in Zeeland. The man’s identity was known to the police, but his whereabouts remained unknown until the tips led to his arrest.
The police arrested the man on charges of criminal exploitation of children, which is considered a form of human trafficking. The investigation into the man’s activities is ongoing, and he is currently in custody. The Dutch police expressed gratitude to the public for providing information that helped bring the suspect to light and secure the safety of the children involved.
This case underscores the increasing concern over the use of minors in criminal activities and the need for vigilant law enforcement measures to protect vulnerable children. As the investigation continues, Dutch authorities are working to ensure that the children are provided with the necessary support and protection.
