The Xiaomi Mi Band 9 has been a topic of discussion since its launch, offering users a sleek design, improved screen quality, and a range of accessories to complement their smart lifestyle. But one feature that stands out is its ability to play games right on your wrist. In this hands-on review, we delve into how to play games on the Mi Band 9, whether it experiences lag, and if an app update is necessary to enjoy these mini-games.

How to Play Games on the Xiaomi Mi Band 9

To start gaming on the Mi Band 9, users need to dive into the Mi Fit app. After selecting the device tab and navigating to the Watch Face Market, you’ll find a variety of watch faces. However, the previously separate Fun Watch Faces category, which housed all the games, has been removed. This means scrolling through numerous options to find the built-in games.

Available Games on the Mi Band 9

Upon extensive scrolling, I managed to find three games: Goal Master, Fist Power Challenge, and 2048. While there might be more, the search process was quite tedious. For comparison, the Mi Band 8 offered four games, including Little Man Crossing and Who’s the Genius.

Fist Power Challenge

This game is designed to measure the force and speed of your punches. Simply wear the band and throw a punch in the air to see the results. It’s an innovative way to incorporate physical activity into gaming.

2048

The classic game of 2048 is also available on the Mi Band 9. Using the four-directional swipe controls, you move the tiles around the screen. Each move results in new numbers appearing at random空白 positions. The goal is to combine tiles to reach the number 2048. Playing this game on a 1.62-inch screen is an interesting experience, and after updating the app, the gameplay was surprisingly smooth, with no lag or tile sticking issues. However, staring at the small screen for extended periods can strain the eyes.

Goal Master

This game involves kicking a ball into a goal, a simple yet engaging challenge that is less commonly played on smart wearables.

Gaming Performance and App Update

Initial reports suggested that gaming on the Mi Band 9 could be unstable, with some users experiencing frozen screens. However, after updating the Mi Fit app, gaming performance improved significantly. I found that playing 2048 was quite fluid, although the app update process took longer than expected—nearly half an hour.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi Band 9 offers a unique feature with its ability to play games on the wrist. While the selection of games is limited and the search process can be cumbersome, the gaming experience is generally smooth after updating the app. The removal of the Fun Watch Faces category is a downside, but it’s hoped that Xiaomi will consider adding it back or implementing a search function to make game discovery easier.

For those who have already invested in the Mi Band 9, the gaming feature adds an extra layer of fun to the device. However, it remains to be seen if the gaming aspect will be a significant draw for potential buyers, especially considering the primary purpose of a smart band is fitness tracking and health monitoring.

In conclusion, the Xiaomi Mi Band 9 is a versatile wearable that combines fitness tracking with the novelty of wrist gaming. With the right app updates and improvements in game discovery, it could become an even more compelling option for tech-savvy users looking for a smart band with a twist.
