Joost Klein, a Dutch singer, has faced a previous confrontation with a camerawoman, which has recently resurfaced following an incident during the Eurovision Song Contest. The incident led to Klein’s removal from the final round of the contest. This situation was reported by the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, which cited the results of police interrogations involving Klein and the camerawoman.

The earlier incident occurred when the camerawoman, while filming Klein for backstage footage, was asked by the singer to cease her recording. The camerawoman continued her work, stating that she was following the terms of a document signed by Klein, which allowed for filming. Following this incident, Klein and his team allegedly apologized and promised that Klein would not react in a similar manner during the Eurovision festival.

However, during the second incident, which took place during the contest, Klein made a threatening gesture towards the camerawoman’s camera. Initially, the camerawoman did not react, assuming that Klein was joking. But when Klein became angrier, she felt scared and vulnerable. The police were informed of the incident, and the camerawoman demanded compensation of 7,000 crowns (approximately 600 euros).

During police interrogations, Klein admitted to making the threatening gesture but claimed that it was directed towards the camera and not the camerawoman. He also denied any wrongdoing, stating that he did not recognize himself in the situation. The Swedish Public Prosecution Service later decided to drop the case against Klein, as there was insufficient evidence to prove that Klein’s gesture was intended to cause the camerawoman serious fear.

The incident highlights the tensions that can arise between artists and media personnel, particularly in high-pressure environments like the Eurovision Song Contest. The singer’s management and the broadcaster AVROTROS confirmed that Klein had been harassed during the contest but declined to comment on the specifics of the apology made after the first incident. The camerawoman’s lawyer has not responded to the publication of the story.
