For the first time, an Airbus Beluga transport aircraft has successfully delivered two H175 helicopters to China, marking a significant milestone for the company. The A300-600ST aircraft touched down at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport on September 1, with the helicopters destined for the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China.
A Historic Journey
The Beluga 3 aircraft embarked on its journey from Airbus Helicopters’ factory in Marignane, France, crossing half the globe to reach Qingdao. The total flight distance covered was approximately 13,500 kilometers. This delivery is particularly noteworthy for Airbus Beluga Transport as it represents three firsts for the company: the first mission to China’s mainland since obtaining the AOC (Air Operator Certificate), the first transport of H175 helicopters, and the first delivery of helicopters to China.
A Strategic Service
Airbus launched the Beluga transport service in January 2022, aiming to provide global customers with super-size cargo transportation services. The service leverages the A300-600’s design, which enables the transport of oversized cargo such as helicopters and satellites. The A300-600ST, based on the A300-600R, was introduced by Airbus in the early 1980s to replace the SUPER GUPPY, which had been in use since the company’s inception and was derived from the Boeing 377.
Unique Aircraft Design
The Beluga aircraft features a unique design that sets it apart from traditional cargo planes. Its main wing and the lower middle section of the fuselage are derived from the A300-600R, while the rest of the aircraft has been重新designed. The vertical tail fin is from the A340. The main cabin is 7 meters wide and has an effective length of 37.3 meters, with an overhead door for easy loading and unloading of cargo.
The H175 Helicopter
The H175, an intermediate-class helicopter, has been in operation since 2015. It is capable of performing a wide range of missions, including search and rescue, disaster relief, public services, and marine commuting. The helicopter is also suitable for private and corporate aviation. Its versatility and reliability make it a popular choice for various applications.
Industry Impact
The delivery of the H175 helicopters to China is not just a business transaction but also a testament to the growing cooperation between Airbus and China. The Chinese aviation market is one of the fastest-growing in the world, and this partnership is expected to further strengthen ties between the two entities.
Future Prospects
With the successful delivery of the H175 helicopters, Airbus Beluga Transport is poised to expand its services in the region. The company is looking forward to more opportunities to support China’s growing demand for advanced aviation technology and services.
Conclusion
The maiden delivery of H175 helicopters to China by the Airbus Beluga transport aircraft is a historic event that underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and customer service. As Airbus continues to expand its global footprint, this latest achievement is a clear indication of its dedication to meeting the unique needs of its customers worldwide.
