Cathay Pacific Cancels Flights After Engine Fault Found in A350 Aircraft
HONG KONG – Cathay Pacific Airways has canceled 34pairs of flights after discovering engine component failures in multiple Airbus A350 aircraft. The airline is facing a significant disruption to its operations as it works to addressthe issue.
The problem came to light when an A350 aircraft returning from Zurich to Hong Kong experienced engine component failure. Upon further inspection,15 additional A350 aircraft were found to require engine component replacements.
The airline has confirmed that all affected aircraft are expected to be back in service by this Saturday. However, the cancellations have already caused significant inconvenience for passengers.
Transport and Logistics Bureau Chief Expresses Concern
Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr. Lam Sai-hung, who is currently visiting Europe, expressed deep concern about the situation. He instructed his department to stay in close contactwith Cathay Pacific, the Civil Aviation Department (CAD), and the Airport Authority to ensure the issue is addressed promptly.

Civil Aviation Department Takes Action
The CAD has confirmed thatit is maintaining close communication with Cathay Pacific and relevant aviation authorities to ensure the safety of passengers. The department has also launched an investigation into the incident through the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB).
The AAIB’s investigation aims to identify the root cause of the engine component failures and implement measures to preventsimilar incidents from occurring in the future.
Cathay Pacific Apologizes for Disruption
Cathay Pacific has apologized for the inconvenience caused by the cancellations. The airline is working to re-accommodate affected passengers on alternative flights and is providing assistance to those whose travel plans have been disrupted.
