While the Hong Kong edition of the Xia Peng X9 remains to be seen, we can provide an overview of its features based on our recent test drives in mainland China.
Xia Peng X9 Design and Features
The Xia Peng X9 boasts a futuristic design, characterized by the Starship design language. The car’s body lines lend a three-dimensional appearance to the vehicle, particularly to its distinctive, dynamic tail design, which features a贯穿式尾灯. The middle of the tail lights is adorned with Xia Peng’s English name, subtly integrated with lighting effects.
The vehicle measures 5,293mm in length, 1,988mm in width, and 1,785mm in height, with a 3,160mm wheelbase. It comes equipped with dual electric sliding doors, although the door sills are relatively high, potentially making it less convenient for elderly passengers. However, the B pillar offers a handhold for support.
From the side, the 21-degree A pillar adds to the vehicle’s three-dimensionality, creating an illusion of a floating roof. The full-black window frame and flat side windows effectively reduce drag, resulting in a 0.227 Cd drag coefficient. The headlight design, a continuation of Xia Peng’s family-style X-Robot, is a贯穿式 design with two laser radars hidden within. The front bumper design bears a resemblance to the Lexus LM series, setting it apart from other electric MPVs with box-like shapes.
Performance and Power
Equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, the Xia Peng X9 delivers 235kW of power and 450Nm of torque, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds. The vehicle utilizes the Fouzhou architecture, supporting 800V charging. Using Xia Peng’s own S4 charging station, it can recharge for approximately 300km of range in just 10 minutes. The vehicle also supports 3.3kW V2L functionality, powered by a 101.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, achieving a CLTC standard range of 702km.
Comfort and Space
Notably, the Xia Peng X9 is designed with family use in mind. Its spacious table provides ample room for comfort and convenience. The first row of seats features a one-touch movement function, allowing passengers to easily access the third row. The third row of seats is spacious and comfortable, with ample legroom even when the second row is moved to the rear. The footrest area in the second row is also designed for easy foot extension, a feature appreciated by our reviewer.
Interior Design and Controls
The Xia Peng X9’s interior design is modern and equipped with a large, high-definition screen for the second row, providing an excellent entertainment experience, especially for children. However, some aspects of the interior design, such as the dashboard’s seemingly out-of-place metallic vent design, may be seen as less aesthetically pleasing and potentially problematic for air conditioning efficiency and passenger comfort.
Driving Experience
In the driver’s seat, the overall space and equipment are well-designed, offering a comfortable and accessible experience. The seat controls are tactile and easy to use. The air conditioning system, while featuring a circular design for the vents, lacks an adjustable angle function, which could be improved for better temperature control.
Comparison with BYD Teng Shi D9
While the specifics of the Xia Peng X9’s features and performance compared to the BYD Teng Shi D9 cannot be directly addressed without a direct comparison, the Xia Peng X9 stands out with its unique design, advanced technology, and focus on family comfort.
