The 2024 BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Forum, scheduled to take place in Xiamen, Fujian province, from September 10, is poised to emphasize four key highlights, according to a press briefing by Zhou Keer, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on September 3.

The event, co-hosted by the MIIT and the Fujian provincial government, has been incorporated into the official program of Russia’s BRICS presidency. With the theme Joining Hands to Build High-Quality Partnerships and Embark on a New Journey of Industrialization Cooperation, the forum will encompass opening ceremonies, ministerial roundtables, high-level industry dialogues, outcome announcements, and specialized discussions over a two-day period. It will also feature the awards ceremony for the BRICS Industrial Innovation Competition, an exhibition of BRICS industrial cooperation, and a showcase of the BRICS Industrial Cooperation Enabling Platform.

The BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership aims to deepen collaboration among BRICS countries in industrialization, digitalization, and innovation, receiving widespread endorsement from all member nations. Zhou highlighted that since its inception in 2019, the partnership forum has successfully hosted five editions, serving as an annual platform for policy exchanges, experience sharing, practical cooperation, and industry alignment.

This year’s forum, marking the first after the historic expansion of the BRICS bloc, has attracted heightened attention from both BRICS and BRICS+ countries. The forum will feature a broader representation, with participation from 40 countries and international organizations such as the New Development Bank and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. To date, representatives from 31 countries have confirmed attendance, including ministerial representatives from Russia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Bolivia, Cuba, Guyana, Morocco, Nigeria, Tajikistan, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe, along with ambassadors from four nations. The president of the New Development Bank and high-ranking officials from the UN Industrial Development Organization and the Digital Cooperation Organization are also set to participate. The event will also engage business leaders, think tanks, universities, industry associations, and financial institutions from BRICS and BRICS+ nations. Notable domestic companies, like China Telecom, iFlytek, CATL, Hisense Group,亿航智能, and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, have confirmed their participation.

The forum’s professional nature will be underlined by a more diverse range of cooperation areas. It will tackle热点 issues arising from the ongoing technological revolution and industrial transformation, focusing on common challenges and opportunities faced by BRICS and other developing countries in accelerating industrialization. Sessions will delve into areas such as artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, low-altitude industry, energy electronics, industrial technology innovation, historical classic industries, industrial design, digital industry ecosystems, industry-finance cooperation, and green and low-carbon industry. These discussions aim to explore ways to upgrade traditional industries, strengthen competitive industries, nurture emerging industries, and proactively position for future industries, while keeping abreast of international frontiers and hot topics.

In conclusion, the 2024 BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Forum promises to be a significant platform for fostering collaboration and innovation among member countries. The event’s focus on representation, professionalism, and the breadth of cooperation domains underscores the commitment of BRICS nations to strengthening their collective impact in the global economic landscape. With the expansion of the bloc and the participation of a diverse range of stakeholders, the forum is set to contribute to the development and prosperity of not just BRICS countries, but also a broader network of developing nations and emerging markets.
