Beijing, China – The summer holiday railway security operation in Beijing has successfully concluded, with the local railway police handling a total of 1585 cases and dealing with 1708 individuals involved in illegal activities. According to a report from the Beijing Railway Bureau on September 1, the two-month-long operation ended on August 31, ensuring stable order and safe passenger transport during the peak travel season.

During the operation, the Beijing Railway Police, under the unified deployment of higher-level public security authorities, conducted a series of special campaigns aimed at tackling various治安 (public security) issues. These included the Summer Public Security Crackdown Campaign, the Summer Night Public Security Inspection Campaign, and the Safe and Smooth Special Operation for the Station Area and Surrounding Traffic Order.

Our efforts were focused on打击 (cracking down on) illegal behaviors such as seat occupation, drunk and disorderly conduct, molestation, smoking on trains, and theft and fraud, said an official from the Beijing Railway Bureau.

The police force implemented a grid-based deployment strategy, stationing personnel at major stations and key passenger trains to carry out the Three Strikes and Three Prevents and Iron Eagle special operations. These measures effectively targeted persistent public security issues such as illegal taxi soliciting, guiding passengers into stations, and causing disturbances at stations.

In addition to these operations, the Beijing Railway Police actively engaged in community-based prevention and control measures. They collaborated with various groups in the station area and along the railway to conduct joint patrols and inspections, ensuring stable public order within the jurisdiction.

By the end of the operation on August 31, we had handled 1518 public security cases and 67 criminal cases, dealing with a total of 1708 illegal individuals, noted the official. Among them, 37 individuals were subjected to criminal coercive measures, 157 were administratively detained, and 178 were caught as fugitives.

To ensure the last mile of travel was safe and smooth for passengers, the police focused on major stations and municipal-level passenger railway stations. They collaborated with multiple departments to launch the Safe and Smooth Special Operation for the Station Area and Surrounding Traffic Order. Since the start of the operation, the police have conducted over 90 joint law enforcement actions, cleared more than 7400 long-staying vehicles, and handled 769 traffic violations.

We coordinated with local traffic management departments and station management committees to scientifically adjust the traffic layout around the stations, reasonably define driving roads, optimize five car parking areas for ride-hailing services, and set up seven special lanes, added the official.

The Beijing Railway Police also closely collaborated with railway personnel to strengthen the inspection of security check sites. They ensured that all incoming passengers and their luggage underwent full coverage security checks, strictly implementing measures such as concurrent checks of people and objects, and mandatory inspection of all liquids. These efforts aimed to prevent dangerous goods from entering the station and boarding trains, thereby ensuring the safety of passengers.

During the summer operation, we intercepted 236 items of controlled dangerous goods and 318,797 items of restricted dangerous goods, highlighted the official.

Furthermore, the police force actively organized convenient services for passengers and conducted anti-fraud warning and deterrence work to protect passengers’ financial assets. They helped passengers retrieve more than 1000 lost or mistakenly taken items, worth over 2 million yuan, and conducted over 220 offline anti-fraud宣传活动 (publicity activities), educating 19,000 people. They also dealt with over 2500 anti-fraud deterrence warning clues and returned 747,000 yuan of telecommunications fraud-related funds to the victims.

The successful conclusion of the summer holiday security operation by the Beijing Railway Police has showcased their commitment to ensuring the safety and order of railway transportation during peak travel seasons. Their comprehensive approach, combining strict enforcement and community engagement, has significantly contributed to a smooth and secure travel experience for millions of passengers.
