Windows 11 Gets New Feature: Widget Panel Button Can Now Be Moved tothe Right Side of the Taskbar
August 30, 2024 – Microsoft has quietly introduced a new feature in Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 that allows users tomove the widget panel button to the right side of the taskbar. This change comes after the installation of the KB5041587 update, accordingto a tweet from the source @phantomofearth.
Previously, the widget panel button was always located on the left side of the taskbar, regardless of whether the taskbar was aligned to the center or the left. This new feature allows usersto customize the layout of their taskbar further, providing more flexibility for those who prefer a more traditional layout.
To enable this feature, users need to follow these steps:
- Install the Windows 11 KB5041587 update. This update is available through Windows Update.
- Open the Taskbar settings. This can be done by right-clicking on any empty space on the taskbar and selecting Taskbar settings.
- Select Taskbar alignment and choose Left or Center. This will align the taskbar to the left or center of the screen, respectively.
- The widget panel button will now be located on the right side of the taskbar, near the system tray.
This feature is currently available in the Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 versions, and it is believed to be the first time this feature has been enabled outside of the Windows Insider program.
However, if users prefer to keep the widget panel button on the left side of the taskbar, they can disable the feature using the ViveTool tool. Here are the steps:
1.Download the ViveTool tool from the GitHub page.
2. Extract the downloaded files to a folder of your choice. Make sure you remember the folder path.
3. Open the Command Prompt as administrator. This can be done by searching for cmd in the Start menu and right-clicking onthe result to select Run as administrator.
4. Navigate to the ViveTool folder using the cd
command. For example, if you extracted the files to C:\\Program Files (x86)\\ViVeTool-v0.3.2
, you would type cd C:\\ProgramFiles (x86)\\ViVeTool-v0.3.2
.
5. Type the following command and press Enter: vivetool /disable /id:48660958
6. Restart your device.
This will disable the feature and move the widgetpanel button back to the left side of the taskbar.
This new feature is a welcome addition for those who prefer a more traditional taskbar layout. It provides more flexibility and customization options for users, allowing them to arrange their taskbar elements in a way that best suits their needs.
It remains to be seen whether thisfeature will be rolled out to all Windows 11 users in the future, but for now, it is available to those who have installed the KB5041587 update.
