Qinghai’s Organic Grassland Monitoring Area Surpasses 300 MillionMu
Xining, Qinghai Province, August 27,2024 – The monitoring area of organic grassland in Qinghai Province has surpassed 300 million mu (20 million hectares) in thefirst half of this year, accounting for 50.3% of the total grassland area. This represents a doubling compared to 2023,highlighting the province’s significant progress in ecological conservation.
From the perspective of the provincial and ministerial joint construction special plan (2022-2025), the organic grassland monitoring area has already reached 200% of the target set for strengthening the production foundation, said Jin Shengshou, Director of the Qinghai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, at the 2024 Provincial and Ministerial Joint Construction of Qinghai Green Organic Agricultural andAnimal Products Output Base Working Conference. The construction of high-standard farmland has achieved 98.6% of the target.
Qinghai has been actively promoting green and circular development in recent years, with the area of reduced fertilizer and pesticide use accounting for one-third of the total sown area. The provincehas also established 3 million mu of provincial-level green pest control bases, with a green pest control coverage rate of 47.5%. Additionally, the comprehensive utilization rate of straw, the recovery rate of agricultural plastic film, and the resource utilization rate of manure have reached 90%, 90%,and 83%, respectively.
The province has also made significant strides in traceability and brand building. Currently, the origin traceability of Qinghai yak and Tibetan sheep covers 85% of county-level administrative regions. The total number of green food, organic agricultural products, and geographical indication agricultural products has reached1,200, with the product quality and safety routine monitoring qualification rate reaching 98.2%.
In terms of enhancing output capacity, the processing and transformation rate of agricultural and animal products in Qinghai has reached 64%, approaching the target, said Jin Shengshou. We have certifieda total of 1,200 green food, organic agricultural products, and geographical indication agricultural products (target of over 1,000). At the same time, we are focusing on building a ‘1+8’ brand system with distinct local characteristics and expanding influence, aiming to strengthen the regional publicbrand of agricultural and animal products. There are currently 183 provincial-level and above enterprise brands, 20 China-famous trademarks for agricultural and animal products, and 200 agricultural and animal product brands released.
In recent years, the influence of the Qinghai brand has continued toexpand, with the province’s domestic and foreign markets continuously expanding. Qinghai has exported over 30 billion yuan worth of green organic agricultural and animal products to other provinces.

The province’s efforts to promote green and circular development, enhance product quality and safety, and build strong brands are crucial for ensuring the long-term prosperity of its agricultural and animal husbandry sectors while safeguarding its unique natural environment.
