The rich history of the red revolution connecting Shanghai and Lu’an was showcased on August 26th with the inauguration of the Red Wave Over Dabie Mountain – Shanghai and Lu’an Red Cultural Relics Exhibition at the专题展厅 of the中共一大纪念馆 in Shanghai. This exhibition highlights the profound and enduring bond between the two regions, both steeped in revolutionary history.
Hosted by the exhibition organizers, the display meticulously curates 60 precious artifacts and historical documents from Shanghai and Lu’an’s extensive red heritage collections. Some of these relics are being exhibited in Shanghai for the first time, including a leather cotton裤 worn by Liu Bocheng and a砚台 used by烈士许继慎, offering a poignant glimpse into the lives of these revolutionary pioneers.
Shanghai, the birthplace of the Chinese Communist Party, the origin of its founding ideals, and the cradle of the spirit of the Party’s founding, holds a significant place in China’s revolutionary narrative. Lu’an, on the other hand, is a renowned revolutionary老区, known as the cradle of the Red Army and the hometown of generals, fostering the indomitable Dabie Mountain spirit. Despite the geographical distance, the two regions share an unbroken thread of revolutionary DNA. The spark ignited in Shanghai’s 中共一大会址 spread like wildfire to the Dabie Mountain region, with the confluence of the Huangpu River and Huaihe River symbolizing the shared revolutionary journey.
The exhibition, which centers on Lu’an’s red history, delves into the transmission of revolutionary ideas and the establishment of local党组织 between the two cities. It revisits the stirring memories of the land revolution war period, the nationwide抗日战争, and the解放战争 in the Dabie Mountain region. The exhibition’s design is innovative, with the main entrance featuring a Dabie Mountain landscape design, complete with projected imagery that dynamically portrays the revolutionary spirit of the area. The multimedia immersive experience on the second floor recreates the Jizhai County Red Army Memorial Hall, showcasing a film, Snowy Dabie Mountain, which recounts the struggles and triumphs of two families during the revolutionary era.
In addition to these visual spectacles, the exhibition incorporates tactile elements, using stones sourced from豹迹岩村 in Jinchai County, Lu’an, which was a key location in the fusion of the Red 25th and Red 28th Armies. These stones, symbolic of Dabie Mountain, create a unique atmosphere, while local military and folk songs from Lu’an provide a multi-sensory experience for visitors.
The exhibition is a collaborative effort aimed at deepening the shared heritage of red culture between Shanghai and Lu’an.中共一大纪念馆党委书记、馆长薛峰 expressed his hope that this collaboration would strengthen the传承 of red culture in both cities and open up new avenues for promoting their respective revolutionary legacies. Meanwhile, Lu’an Deputy Mayor魏武 believed that this joint endeavor would foster a deeper connection between the people of the two regions and inspire a spirit of unity and determination for the future.
This exhibition, a testament to the enduring spirit of China’s revolutionary past, promises to bring the rich history of Shanghai and Lu’an to life, ensuring that the red culture shines brightly in the contemporary era. By combining innovative presentation methods with the authentic artifacts and stories of these two regions, the Red Wave Over Dabie Mountain exhibition offers a compelling and immersive experience for all who seek to understand and appreciate China’s revolutionary history.
