Over 60% of South Koreans Plan to Take a 9-Day Chuseok Holiday This Year
Seoul, August 24,2024 – A recent survey conducted by travel platform Good Choice reveals that a significant majority of South Koreans are planning to extend theirChuseok holiday this year, with 63% of respondents aiming for a nine-day break.
Chuseok, the Korean Thanksgiving holiday,falls on September 14th to 18th this year. By strategically using annual leave and combining it with the weekend, individuals can enjoy a maximum of nine consecutive days off.
The survey, conducted between August 10th and 11th, polled 2,732 Good Choice app users through the customer experience management platform Dataspace. The results highlight a strong desire among South Koreans to take advantage of the extended holiday for travel andleisure.
Long Trips and Domestic Destinations
A staggering 80% of the respondents indicated their intention to embark on extended trips during the Chuseok break. Domestic travel emerged as the preferred choice for a majority, with 66.3% of respondents expressing their preference for exploring South Korea.This figure surpasses the percentage of those planning to travel abroad.
Among domestic destinations, Gangwon-do (37%), Jeju (11%), and Gyeongsangnam-do (11%) emerged as the most popular choices.
Southeast Asia Takes the Lead for International Travel
Forthose venturing overseas, Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam and Thailand proved to be the most sought-after destinations, attracting 55.5% of the respondents. East Asian destinations, including Japan, followed closely with 25.1% of the vote.
The survey findings indicate a clear trend towards extended travel duringthe Chuseok holiday, reflecting a desire for relaxation and exploration among South Koreans. The popularity of both domestic and international destinations suggests a diverse range of travel preferences, catering to various interests and budgets.
