BYD Han DM-i Gets a Makeover: Laser Radar and DM5.0 Technology
BEIJING, August 25,2024 – BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle giant, is set to unveil a revamped version of its popular Han DM-i sedan,featuring a new design, advanced technology, and a significant upgrade in its hybrid powertrain.
The 2025 BYD Han DM-i, recently spotted in real-world photos, boasts a refreshed front fascia that mirrors the design of the pure electric Han EV. The most notable addition is the inclusion of a laser radar system on the roof, hinting at enhanced autonomous driving capabilities.
The new Han DM-i, which was officially submitted for approval by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in July, will be available in both DM-i and EV powertrain options. According toBYD’s typical product launch cadence, the DM-i variant is expected to be equipped with the latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology.
BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology promises groundbreaking efficiency and performance. It boasts a world-leading 46.06% engine thermal efficiency,a remarkably low 2.9L per 100km fuel consumption in pure electric mode, and a remarkable 2,100km combined range. The new DM 5.0 system also features a significant upgrade in its blade battery, achieving a 15.9% increase in energy densityto 115Wh/kg. Discharge rate has been boosted to 16C, while the feedback rate has been improved to 5C, representing a 20.3% enhancement.
The MIIT’s eighth batch of new energy vehicle purchase tax exemption list confirms the inclusion of the newBYD Han models, revealing key details about their range and powertrain options. The BYD Han EV will be equipped with a 72kWh battery, resulting in a CLTC range of 605km. The BYD Han DM will be offered with two battery options: 12.960kWh and 18.316kWh, providing pure electric ranges of 70km and 102km, respectively.
The addition of laser radar technology to the 2025 BYD Han DM-i suggests a significant leap forward in its autonomous driving capabilities. This, combinedwith the advanced DM 5.0 hybrid system, positions the new Han DM-i as a strong contender in the rapidly evolving premium sedan market.
