Six Jilin-1 Wide-Field Satellites Ready for Launch, Boosting China’s High-Resolution Remote Sensing Capabilities

Changchun, China, August 25, 2024 – Six new Jilin-1 wide-field satellites, designated 02B01-06, have been officially launched today from the Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. in Jilin Province. These satellites are scheduled to be launchedin the near future from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in China.

The launch marks a significant milestone in China’s space exploration program, particularly in the field of high-resolution remote sensing. The Jilin-1wide-field 02B series satellites are the latest generation of coverage-type satellites developed and funded by Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. They represent the first small-batch production of ultra-wide-field, high-resolutionoptical remote sensing satellites in China.

These satellites boast several groundbreaking technological advancements. Their key payload is an off-axis four-mirror optical camera, making them the lightest ultra-wide-field sub-meter optical remote sensing satellites globally. They are capable of capturing high-definition satellite imagery with a 150km width and 0.5m resolution. The satellites also feature mass production capabilities, wide coverage, high resolution, high-speed data transmission, and low cost, making them a valuable asset for various applications.

The successful launch of these six satellites will further accelerate the networking process of the ‘Jilin-1’ satellite constellation, said a spokesperson for Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. This will significantly enhance our high-resolution remote sensing information acquisition capabilities, providing richer remote sensing data and product services for various fields.

The Jilin-1 satellite constellation is a key component of China’s national spaceprogram. It plays a crucial role in various sectors, including:

  • Land resource surveys: The high-resolution imagery provided by these satellites can be used to monitor land use changes, identify potential environmental hazards, and support sustainable land management practices.
  • Smart city development: The data collected by the Jilin-1 satellites can be used to optimize urban planning, manage traffic flow, and improve public safety.
  • Agricultural development: The satellites can monitor crop growth, identify potential disease outbreaks, and optimize irrigation and fertilization strategies, contributing to increased agricultural productivity.

The launch of the six Jilin-1 wide-field satellites is expected to have a significant impact on China’s technological advancement and economic development. It will provide valuable data for various sectors, enabling more informed decision-making and fostering innovation.

This launch also signifies China’s growing ambition in space exploration and its commitment to utilizing space technology for thebetterment of society. As the Jilin-1 satellite constellation continues to expand, it is poised to play an increasingly vital role in shaping China’s future and contributing to global progress.
