Tokyo, August25, 2024 – Typhoon Shanshan,the 10th typhoon of the year, is expected to approach western and eastern Japan after August 28, potentially bringing strong winds and heavy rain,according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The agency reported that as of 9 am on August 25, Shanshan was locatedsouth of Japan, moving northwest at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour. The typhoon’s central pressure was 980 hectopascals, with maximum wind speeds reaching 35 meters per second near the centerand gusts up to 50 meters per second.
Forecasters predict that Shanshan will further intensify in the coming days, potentially reaching very strong typhoon status on August 27. It is then expected to maintain itsstrength as it approaches western and eastern Japan on August 28.
