Yantai, China, August 24 (Xinhua) – The 2024 National University Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Contest: “Ming ShiCup” Micro-Nano Sensing Technology and Smart Application Contest Finals kicked off grandly in Yantai’s Yellow Sea New Area on August 24th.309 teams from 109 universities and research institutes, including Xi’an Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, gathered to compete for the championship.
Hosted by the Chinese Societyof Mechanical Engineering, this contest is the top-level university competition in China for micro-nano sensing technology and smart applications. Themed “Connecting the World, Creating the Future,” the competition focuses on the skills required of university students in thefield of future micro-nano sensors and their intelligent applications. It features competition projects covering aspects such as innovative design of micro-nano sensors, research on micro-nano processes, calibration testing under extreme conditions, and their intelligent applications.
According to the opening ceremony, the number of participating teams has doubled compared to last year. Contestants from across the country presented their ingenious creations to the judges. Ultimately, 309 works entered the national finals, including 152 from graduate students, 151 from undergraduate students, and 6 from junior college students.
Zhao Chunyu, a professor at China JiliangUniversity, said that this competition has become an important part of the innovation and entrepreneurship work in universities, providing a platform for cultivating innovative talents. Therefore, its attractiveness to universities is constantly increasing.
“To enable timely diagnosis of upper respiratory tract infectious disease patients, we have developed an automated, fully integrated microfluidic bio-sensing system for point-of-care testing,” said Liu Jinxiu, a contestant. She hopes that their team’s project will be applied to people’s lives.
It is worth noting that this competition also specially invited experts from the venture capital and industry sectors to participate in the China-Yantai2024 Micro-Nano Manufacturing Industry Supply and Demand Matching Conference, promoting the transformation of achievements.
Jiang Zhuangde, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated that with the continuous development of the Internet of Things, the sensor field has encountered a significant period of development opportunities, penetrating allaspects of people’s production and life. He encouraged young students to focus on the sensor direction and conduct research with dedication.
Since 2020, the “Ming Shi Cup” Micro-Nano Sensing Technology and Smart Application Contest has attracted over 20,000 participating teams from 160 universities and research institutions nationwide. The content covers various topics, including micro-nano innovative design, manufacturing processes, calibration testing, and intelligent applications. A number of outstanding achievements have emerged and have been successfully implemented.
