## “Regional coordinated development is an inevitable requirement for achieving common prosperity”: The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge witnesses a new chapter of China’smodernization
**Beijing, August 23 (CNR)** (Reporter Yu Xiao) Embracing mountains and seas, facing land and islands, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, hailed as one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World”, tightly connects Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Macau, also witnessing the brilliant achievements of China’s regional coordinated development strategy.
General SecretaryXi Jinping pointed out, “Regional coordinated development is an inevitable requirement for achieving common prosperity.” Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has always adhered tothe people-centered development philosophy, deeply implemented the regional coordinated development strategy, and strived for common prosperity for all people. From the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, to the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin, and then to supporting the improvement of production and living conditions in revolutionary old areas, ethnic minority areas, border areas, and poverty-stricken areas, the implementation of a series of major strategies has painted a grand blueprint for China’s modernization.
As one of the most open and economically vibrant regions in China, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area plays a leading role in regional coordinated development. Benefiting from the pioneering spirit of reform and opening up, the Pearl River Delta and the South China Sea coast, once island fishing villages and towns, havelong transformed into prosperous and culturally diverse international metropolises, moving towards a world-class urban agglomeration. The completion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is not only a major breakthrough in transportation infrastructure but also symbolizes a new starting point for the deep integration and development of the three regions of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.
In recent years, the regional coordinated development strategy has achieved remarkable results. The three major power sources of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area have achieved a combined regional GDP of 25.5trillion yuan, accounting for over 40% of the national economic map; the proportion of GDP in the central and western regions has also steadily increased. In the first half of this year, 16 provinces, including Inner Mongolia, Chongqing, Tibet, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Hubei, achieved economic growthrates higher than the “national average,” with faster economic growth in both the eastern and western regions, and the relative gap in regional development continues to narrow.
Regional coordinated development is not only reflected in the improvement of economic indicators but also in the improvement of people’s living standards. One social security card enables the sharingof cultural resources across multiple regions; medical insurance settlement across regions saves people time and money; the “cross-city elderly care” model provides more choices for the elderly; a well-developed transportation network greatly facilitates people’s travel and promotes the effect of integration; the expansion of regional “tourism circles” allows people toenjoy more diverse and high-quality tourism experiences right at their doorstep…
From Deng Xiaoping’s proposal of “the more developed regions should drive the less developed regions, ultimately achieving common prosperity” to the planning and promotion of the regional coordinated development strategy in the new era, China has always focused on the multi-dimensional integration of economy, society, and culture, focusing on achieving common prosperity for all people. In promoting regional coordinated development, China adheres to the grand vision of a “national chessboard” and continues to push forward reforms on the path of China’s modernization, continuing to write new chapters in the “Spring Story”of the new era.
