While the number of foreign visitors to Japan has been steadily increasing in recent years, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the number of cruise passengers arriving from overseas. In 2022, the number of cruise passengers docking in Japanese ports was onlyaround 10% of the peak levels seen in 2017. Given that large cruise ships can accommodate approximately 5,000 passengers, the economic benefits they bring are substantial.
