**SEOUL, Aug. 22 (Yonhap)** – South Korea is experiencing a prolonged heatwave, resulting in a sharp increase in heatstroke cases. According to data releasedby the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on Tuesday, the country recorded 2,994 heatstroke cases as of Aug. 20, with 28 deaths, marking a rise of 462 cases and2 deaths compared to the same period last year.
Data shows that on Aug. 20 alone, 98 heatstroke cases were reported, including two fatalities. Since May 20, the number of heatstroke patients hasbeen steadily climbing.
