**SEOUL, August21 (Yonhap)** – South Korea’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Choo Kyung-ho, met with Japan’snewly appointed Ambassador to South Korea, Mitsui Koichi, at the central government’s Seoul office building on Monday. The two discussed ways to deepen economic cooperation.

Choo emphasized that South Korea and Japan are important trading partners, and bilateral economic cooperation has been expanding in recent years, covering areas such as energy and venture capital. He noted that bilateral relations have made positive progress since the two countriesresumed “shuttle diplomacy” with leaders’ mutual visits last year, creating new opportunities for economic cooperation.
