News Content:
A recent electric vehicle fire incident in Incheon, South Korea, has sparked public concern over the safety of electric vehicles. Against this backdrop, the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport’s vehicle recall website and the Korea Traffic Safety Corporation announced on August 16 that 21 electric vehicle manufacturers in Korea, which produce and sell electric vehicles, have disclosed information on the battery manufacturers of 69 models of electric vehicles.

The 21 manufacturers cover the major electric vehicle brands on the Korean market, including Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, Hyundai Motor Global, Genesis, and Tesla. According to statistics, out of the 69 electric vehicles, 43 models use batteries from Korean battery manufacturers LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On, accounting for 62.3%. Additionally, 17 models use batteries from Chinese manufacturers CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited) and Faraday Future, representing 24.6%. The remaining models mix batteries from domestic, Chinese, and Japanese manufacturers.

Among Korean brands, the electric vehicles of Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Hyundai Motor Global mainly use batteries from LG Energy Solution and SK On. Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y use a mix of LG Energy Solution, Panasonic, and CATL products, while the Model X and Model S use Panasonic batteries.

Disclosing information on battery manufacturers not only helps consumers understand the origins of the batteries in electric vehicles but also reflects the South Korean government’s concern for the safety of electric vehicles. This move also contributes to enhancing market transparency and promoting the sustainable development of the electric vehicle industry.
