News Content:
The South Korean government is set to offer pension benefits enhancement for mothers and soldiers in active service.

According to a high-ranking official at the Presidential Office on the 16th, the government’s proposed reform of the National Pension (pension) system aims to alleviate the burden on the younger generation, including benefits for mothers and soldiers in active service.

It is speculated that considering the significant contribution to society of soldiers in active service and pregnant women, who are typically in their 20s and 30s, the reform is expected to effectively reduce the burden on the young. Specifically, the reform extends the application of the “Pension Contribution Recognition System for Mothers” to cover those giving birth to their first child, expanding from the current scope that applies only to women giving birth to their second child after January 1, 2008. Under the current system, women who give birth to their second child after January 1, 2008, are recognized for 12 months of pension contribution, with an additional 18 months for each subsequent child, up to a maximum of 50 months. However, the reform extends the scope to include women giving birth to their first child and eliminates the upper limit.

Under the reform, the “Pension Contribution Recognition System for Soldiers in Active Service” is also set to be expanded, extending the current recognition of only six months of contribution to the entire period of military service.

It is reported that President尹锡悦 may hold a policy briefing at the end of this month or the beginning of next month to officially announce the aforementioned reform. (完)
