中新网北京8月11日电 (记者 孙自法)李政道先生追思会8月11日在北京举行,中国学界代表齐聚中国科学院高能物理研究所,深切缅怀这位科学巨匠为中国科技发展所作出的卓越贡献。
李政道先生,著名物理学家,诺贝尔物理学奖获得者,长期以来一直致力于推动中国高能物理事业的发展,并为中国基础研究和应用科学培养了大批优秀人才。中国科学院前沿科学与基础研究局副局长魏志祥在会上表示,李政道先生对中国科学院的基础研究工作给予了极大关注和支持,推动了该院乃至全国的基础研究人才发展,并为中美基础研究国际合作奠定了坚实基础。
北京大学物理学院院长高原宁院士在致辞中提到,李政道先生对北大物理学科的发展给予了深远的前瞻规划和亲自推动,为北大物理及相关学科的高层次人才培养、前沿交叉研究和国际交流合作做出了巨大贡献。
中国科学院理论物理研究所所长周善贵表示,该所的发展受益于李政道先生推动设立的多个项目,包括中美联合招考赴美国留学物理研究生项目(CUSPEA)、博士后流动站制度、国家自然科学基金等。研究所将传承和弘扬李政道先生的科学精神和报国情怀,面向国家重大需求和世界科技前沿,不断开拓进取。
中国科学院高能物理研究所所长王贻芳院士在纪念报告中全面回顾了李政道先生的学术生涯,以及对中国高能物理事业、科教事业和人才培养的卓越功勋。王贻芳院士强调,李政道先生不仅使中国高能物理事业走到了国际前沿,也为中国基础研究和应用科学的发展培养了大批后备人才。
李政道先生的长子李中清教授在书面致辞中表示,父亲的遗愿是希望他永远与家人相连。追思会由中国科学院高能所、北京现代物理研究中心等多家单位共同组织,线上线下同步举行,吸引了30余所高校和科研单位的院士专家及师生代表,以及李政道先生家属、亲友、生前同事和社会各界人士等330余人参加。
李政道先生于当地时间2024年8月4日凌晨在美国旧金山家中辞世,享年97岁。李政道先生的逝世是中国科技界的巨大损失,但他的科学精神和未竟的事业将永远激励着后人。

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — A memorial service for Li Zhengdao was held in Beijing on August 11, where representatives from China’s academic community gathered at the High Energy Physics Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to pay tribute to the great scientist for his outstanding contributions to China’s science and technology development.
Li Zhengdao, a renowned physicist and Nobel laureate in physics, has long been dedicated to advancing China’s high-energy physics and cultivating a generation of outstanding talents in basic research and applied sciences. At the event, Wei Zhixiang, the deputy director of the Frontier Sciences and Basic Research Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, noted that Li Zhengdao has shown great attention and support for the basic research work of the Academy, promoting the development of talent in basic research not only within the Academy but also nationwide, and laying a solid foundation for international cooperation in basic research between China and the United States.
At the memorial service, Gao Yuanning, the president of the Physics Institute of Peking University, mentioned that Li Zhengdao has provided far-sighted planning and personal guidance for the development of the physics department at Peking University, contributing significantly to the high-level talent cultivation, frontier interdisciplinary research, and international exchange and cooperation in physics and related fields.
Zhou Shanggui, the director of the Theoretical Physics Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stated that the institute’s development has benefited from several projects initiated by Li Zhengdao, including the CUSPEA (Chinese-American Joint Physicists Exchange Program) for joint admissions of physics graduate students to the United States, the postdoctoral station system, and the National Natural Science Foundation. The institute will carry forward and promote Li Zhengdao’s scientific spirit and patriotic feelings, aiming to continuously innovate and advance in response to national needs and the cutting edge of world science and technology.
In his memorial report, Wang Yi’an, the director of the High Energy Physics Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, comprehensively reviewed Li Zhengdao’s academic career and his extraordinary contributions to China’s high-energy physics, education, and talent cultivation. Wang emphasized that Li Zhengdao not only brought China’s high-energy physics to the international forefront but also cultivated a large number of后备 talents for China’s basic research and applied sciences.
In a written speech, Li Zhengdao’s eldest son, Professor Li Zhongqing, expressed his father’s wish to remain forever connected with his family. The memorial service was jointly organized by the High Energy Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Beijing Key Laboratory of Modern Physics, attracting over 30 universities and research institutions, over 300 participants including academicians, faculty representatives, family members, friends, former colleagues, and members of the public.
Li Zhengdao passed away at his home in San Francisco, USA, on the morning of August 4, 2024, at the age of 97. His passing is a great loss to China’s scientific community, but his scientific spirit and unfinished cause will continue to inspire future generations.
