BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — A group of Taiwanese participants in a study camp on the Yellow River’s “Ji-zi Bend” and the western development campaign recently visited areas along the river in Inner Mongolia, including Wuhai, Bayan Nur, Ordos, and Baotou. Their journey along the “Ji-zi Bend” of the Yellow River allowed them to explore the river’s management and utilization, as well as related industrial development.

After their visit, several Taiwanese participants expressed their admiration for the significant achievements in environmental protection in the mainland and their hope for enhanced cooperation and exchanges in environmental protection between the two sides.

At the Haibao Bay Hydropower Station, the Taiwanese visitors learned in detail about the site selection, the function of the dam, and the coordination of water resources upstream and downstream. The completion of the Haibao Bay Hydropower Station effectively alleviated the impact of ice disasters, showcasing the mainland’s scientific planning and efficient management in water conservancy projects.

At the Inner Mongolia Hetao Irrigation System Information Monitoring Center, the Taiwanese visitors expressed their appreciation for the smart water management system used in the area. This system efficiently manages the irrigation of the Yellow River water, demonstrating the mainland’s achievements in agricultural modernization.

The Hetao Irrigation Area, located at the top of the “Ji-zi Bend” of the Yellow River, covers an irrigation area of over 1.1 million mu (about 733,333 hectares) and is known as the “grain granary of the frontier.” The Taiwanese visitors commended the irrigation and drainage system in the area, noting that it not only benefits agricultural development but also preserves the local ecological balance.

Zhong Jianming, the general manager of Wuxi Qilight Metal Parts Co., Ltd., said that the mainland has made great efforts in the western development campaign and hopes that Taiwanese enterprises can participate in it, bringing Taiwan’s concepts and technologies for ecological protection to the mainland.

Xiao Fangshan, the Taiwan district director of the environmental protection technology group Waili, believes that environmental protection professionals from both sides of the strait can engage in more academic and technical exchanges through visits and seminars. He encouraged Taiwanese youth to participate more in environmental protection activities in the mainland, gaining firsthand insights into the country’s construction and progress.

The Taiwanese participants expressed their admiration for the mainland’s achievements in environmental protection and looked forward to more cooperative outcomes in environmental protection efforts across the strait, jointly advancing environmental protection and sustainable development.
