据悉，甬金铁路作为一条以货运为主、兼顾客运的区域性铁路，连接宁波地区与浙江中西部内陆腹地，是宁波舟山港集疏运的重要组成部分。过去，金华及周边地区的货物需要经过甬金铁路运至宁波舟山港北仑港站，再通过公路转运至穿山港区。新通道的开通，直接将货物运输从金华南货场直达穿山港站，减少了短驳环节，有效降低了物流成本，提高了运输效率。
2023年12月，金华—宁波舟山港金义“第六港区”浙中运营平台公司的成立，标志着浙江省海港投资运营集团有限公司与金华市政府、杭州铁路物流中心的合作进一步深化。这一合作推动了宁波舟山港金义“第六港区”陆海联动的进一步发展，为金华地区的经济发展注入了新的活力。
