Title: “Taiwanese Youth in Shanghai: Opening a Mobile Payment Account”

Keywords: Taiwanese youth opening an account, mobile payment, Shanghai experience

Content:
Taiwanese girl Lee Yuxuan, a first-time visitor to the mainland, opened a savings account at a Taiwanese-funded bank in Shanghai and experienced the convenience of mobile payment. She said it took her less than half an hour to complete the account opening process and expressed her eagerness to use mobile payment in the mainland.

Lee Yuxuan participated in a youth visit program organized by the Taiwan Changfeng Cultural and Educational Foundation. On July 7, they visited the Lujiazui branch of Fubon Huayi Bank to experience the on-site account opening service. Fubon Huayi Bank, whose predecessor is Huayi Bank, was the first commercial bank jointly funded by both sides of the Taiwan Strait to be established in Shanghai in 1997.

The bank’s mobile payment convenience scheme for Taiwanese launched last October allows Taiwanese to make appointments for account opening on the bank’s WeChat public account, choose the time and location, and support the use of Taiwanese mobile phone numbers for the process. This allows Taiwanese to receive and activate their debit cards at a convenience service point of the branch, significantly reducing the processing time.

On the same day, Taiwanese youth Yang Chenhan also opened a bank card and looked forward to his experience of using it in the mainland for the coming months. Taiwanese employees Chen Yuting and Zhang Jinghao shared their experiences working in the mainland, encouraging young people to step out of their comfort zones and display a spirit of perseverance.

At 21, Taiwanese youth Jiang Kaixuyu began a 10-week internship in Shanghai, where he said he gained valuable insights into the operations of the banking industry and the division of labor among departments through the internship. Interacting with clients was particularly beneficial.

These experiences of Taiwanese youth illustrate the integration of cross-strait financial services and the convenience mainland China provides to Taiwanese. As cross-strait exchanges deepen, more Taiwanese youth will have the opportunity to start their careers and lives in a new chapter in the mainland.
