News Content: The China Meteorological Administration held a press conference on August 1st, where it released the characteristics of the national weather and climate for July, the forecast for August’s climate trends, and weather service reminders. At the meeting, Jia Xiao-long, Deputy Director of the National Climate Center, stated that in the next ten days, northern parts of China will experience frequent precipitation events, while the southern regions will continue to face high temperatures.
In terms of precipitation, it is expected that during the first ten days of August, the main areas of rainfall will be located in the Northeast, North China, eastern parts of Northwest China, and the southwest regions. There will be frequent rainfall events, with major precipitation expected from August 2nd to 4th, 5th to 6th, and 8th to 10th. In these areas, such as North China, the Northeast, eastern parts of Northwest China, and the Huang-Huai-River region, rainfall will mainly be light to moderate, with localized areas potentially experiencing heavy to torrential rain, along with thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail. Regions like the Sichuan Basin and Yunnan will also see moderate to heavy rain, with some areas possibly experiencing severe storms or torrential rain. The accumulated rainfall in these areas is expected to range from 50 to 90 millimeters, with some areas reaching 100 to 150 millimeters and even up to 200 millimeters in localized areas, which is 30 to 70 percent more than the average for the same period last year, with some regions seeing up to double the normal amount.
Regarding high temperatures, influenced by the western Pacific subtropical high and the continental high pressure system, it is predicted that in the first ten days of August, areas such as southern Huang-Huai, Jianghuai, northern Yangtze River, northern Fujian, Chongqing, and the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang will experience 4 to 8 days of high temperatures, with daily maximum temperatures reaching 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, and in some areas up to 39 to 42 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Administration reminds relevant departments and the public to closely monitor weather changes and to prepare for meteorological disaster prevention measures to ensure the safety of production and life. At the same time, the public is advised to plan their travel wisely, stay cool, and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest hours to minimize the impact of the high temperatures on health.
