BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) — Boeing Co. announced on July 31 that Kelly Ogle, who served as the president and chief executive officer of Rockwell Collins, will take over as president and chief executive officer of Boeing.
The Boeing Co. board has elected Ogle as the company’s new president and chief executive officer, with the appointment taking effect on August 8, 2024. Ogle will also serve on the company’s board of directors.
At 64 years old, Ogle began his career in 1983 as an engineer at Texas Instruments and was promoted to project manager at Rockwell Collins in 1987. He became the company’s president and chief executive officer in 2013. Rockwell Collins manufactures electronic systems and other equipment for aircraft, making it one of Boeing’s and Airbus’s major suppliers.
During his tenure at Rockwell Collins, Ogle’s products appeared on models such as the 737 Max. In late 2018, Rockwell Collins was acquired by United Technologies Corporation, and Ogle took on a senior position in the new company. In early 2020, United Technologies merged with Raytheon Company to form Raytheon Technologies Corp. Ogle retired from the company in 2021.
This year, Boeing aircraft have suffered incidents including emergency doors detaching, engine fires, tire blowouts, runway excursions, and wing damage, putting immense pressure on the company. On March 25, 2024, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun announced that he would step down by the end of the year. Calhoun stated that his decision to resign was entirely his own and that he would continue to serve as a special advisor to the Boeing board until March 2025.
Boeing reported a net loss of $144 million for the second quarter, compared to a net loss of $149 million in the same period last year.
With the appointment of the new chief executive officer, Boeing is set to welcome a new leadership team, with hopes that the new leadership will lead the company out of its difficulties and restore market trust and confidence.
