HONG KONG, July 30 (Xinhua) — Leung Chun-ying, a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), recently delivered a written speech in which he emphasized the foundational role of national security in social survival and development. He noted that national security is closely related to the lives of citizens, and only in a peaceful and stable environment can society and the economy continue to develop, allowing citizens to live and work in peace and for the next generation to grow healthily. Against the backdrop of global instability, Hong Kong, as the most open gateway to the international world for the country, must be vigilant and ensure the sustained and stable development of society.
Leung Chun-ying also called on citizens to remain vigilant and discerning in the defense of national security, and to strive to tell the story of “one country, two systems” well. Secretary for Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Andrew Leung, also made a speech, pointing out that with the promulgation of the National Security Law in March this year, Hong Kong has fulfilled its constitutional responsibility for the enactment of Article 23 of the Basic Law and has improved relevant legal systems and enforcement mechanisms.
